The early Raw concept was very different from today’s concept of a big budget and heavily produced arena show.
In 1993, the idea was literally for a ‘Raw’ format. That meant stripped back production, with a deliberately gritty presentation that harked back to wrestling roots. It was very different from the glamorous ceremony of WWF’s late 80’s shows. The small setting of the Grand Ballroom on the seventh floor of New York City’s Manhattan Center was fitting to McMahon’s vision of “uncut, uncooked, uncensored.”
